Barbering / Master Hair Care Specialists
Students in the Barbering/Master Haircare Specialist program will focus on learning services geared toward men’s facial hair along with cutting and styling (primarily) men’s hair. After successfully completing two years in the program, students are eligible to take the licensure exam and become a certified barber and/or master haircare specialist by the state of South Carolina.

Barbering / Master Hair Care Specialist Level I
Level I students receive training in the art and science of hair, beard and mustache cutting, styling, coloring, and chemical processing. Instruction in chemistry, bacteriology, anatomy and physiology of the face, head, arms and hands are incorporated by means of theory and practical application on mannequins. This course of study also includes infection control principles and practices and barber shop planning and management.
Barbering / Master Hair Care Specialist Level II
Prerequisites: Barbering / Master Hair Care Specialist Level I
The course continues with the theoretical and technical knowledge needed to prepare students to qualify for state licensing examinations. Prior knowledge acquired in Level I is reinforced by classroom theory and practical application on mannequins and patrons in the on-site hair care clinic. After successfully completing two years in the program, students are eligible to take the licensure exam and become a certified barber and/or master hair care specialist by the state of South Carolina.

Ms. Riley attended Denmark Technical College and earned her barbering degree from Golden Shears Academy. She has 17 years of industry experience, is the former owner of an award-winning salon and has worked for Hair Etc., a major hair care magazine.
